It’s the Little Things Thursday #1

Mindset. Mindset. Mindset. I know I constantly talk about it– & scream about it if you go to my spin class 😉 — but MINDSET IS EVERYTHING.  There’s a quote:

“Some people think they can, some think they can’t, they are both right.”

And, they are!  The more positive vibes you put into you brain, the more positive energy comes out.  When you think negative, you are making it THAT much harder.

Imagine as you are climbing a mountain someone is screaming at you that you won’t make it, you’re not strong enough.  Those words seep into you, you start to believe them, and you will struggle.  Now, imagine yourself climbing that SAME mountain but instead someone is screaming at you that you are amazing, strong, and you are going to make it. You have more energy, more motivation to push forward, more encouragement that you will make it, so you automatically seem stronger. *

^^ That person screaming at you is your thoughts. That is EXACTLY how it works with everything in life and THAT positive yelling is the YOUMAKEYOU® mindset!

                                      positive mind = positive life

I titled this post ‘It’s the Little Things Thursday #1’ because one of the ways I keep my YMY mindset aligned is by recognizing and celebrating the little things.

Obviously the little things that happen to me are not what will happen to you but they will get your mind focusing on noticing them in your own life! PLUS, maybe my rambles will get you to smile. Who knows 😉

ONE: I gave up the hope of finding kabocha squash in normal supermarkets about a year ago after many many many months of my heart being torn out in dismay.  So, today after doing work in the Wegmans cafe for 6+ hours (yes they recognize me, it’s fun, it pays off in the occasional latte) I decided to take a stroll around the store, mostly to look for those new nut butter stuffed cliff bars– which now that I think about it, I didn’t even look for because….. At first it was from a distance, I saw the little green/orange striped rind sticking up. I dodged a few children trying to drive carts 4X the size of them, all while keeping my eyes peeled to the heaven I saw.  As I got closer #blindpeopleproblems it became evident that IT WAS KABOCHA. And a shit ton of it to be exact. I took it and ran to the checkout, drove home, and am currently lying in bed charging my phone, typing this post, and smelling the beautiful aroma of it roasting. Moral of the story– who says a $4 piece of squash can’t make a girl happy?!
TWO: Okay, if you’re a guy, stop reading, skip to three. Not in a “Don’t look over there” type of way when we all know you want us to look over there. But in a literally, I promise you don’t care way.  Basically, if you follow me on Instagram you have heard me talk about how I have been pretty sick to my stomach a lot over the past 6 months. I’ve tried food diaries, visiting the doctor, prescription meds, etc. && nothing has helped. EXCEPT, about a week ago I noticed that I felt fine one week a month and that was the sugar pill week of my birth control.  I talked to my doctor and she helped me figure out how to come off of that particular brand and I kid you not, I almost IMMEDIATELY started feeling better! It’s insane how just one tiny pill can affect someone that much, but you have no idea how happy I am that it was that easy to fix.

THREE: Lactose intolerant friends… KEEP READING! GREEK YOGURT IS STRAINED SO MUCH THAT MOST OF THE LACTOSE SUGAR IS REMOVED AKA YOU DON’T NEED LACTAID AND IT MOST LIKELY WILL BE TOLERATED!!! I can’t believe it took me so long to figure this out, but despite my usual severe reactions  to any type of dairy, I can eat a bowl of Greek yogurt and be fine. Note: I posted this on my Instagram too and someone commented to confirm that^ but also that they can tolerate Ben and Jerry’s FroYo however, attempt at your own risk!

FOUR: It is my birthday this Saturday and it’s been a few years since I’ve been capable of celebrating it so I cannot wait to hike and swim and eat and play with my friends (yes that is still a term #playdates).

Now it’s your turn, I want to know one little thing that made you smile today!

&& always remember:

YOU MAKE YOU!

  1. No matter what other dairy issues I’ve had over the years, I’ve always been able to do Greek yogurt and B&J fro-yo. Those have been enough to satisfy that dairy craving without being doubled over in pain afterwards! And happy almost-birthday! ENJOY your day! So glad you’re in a place where you’re able to now 🙂
