As some of you may know if you follow me on Instagram, or may be wondering why I #FitUniversity all of my posts– I am a proud FitUniversity ambassador. Okay cool, so what is FitUniversity? It is my life OBV. But in all seriousness– FitU is a community founded by Sarah Gaines with the ultimate goal of making health and fitness easy, simple, and FUN in the college setting.
Starting a new brand, let alone any new thing, is tough, and scary, however if you want something bad enough– that is all it takes to be successful and THAT is why Sarah Gaines is in the YouMakeYou® spotlight. She had a dream, she saw her life somewhere & she saw thousands of college student’s lives somewhere, so she took that and made it a reality. She embodies the YouMakeYou® mindset perfectly.

I had the pleasure to ask her a few questions…
MEET SARAH:
Give a brief overview of what you are currently doing.
I’m the founder of Fit University, a college student’s go-to source for all things health & fitness. Fit University helps college students get fit & stay fit by providing relevant content online (think workouts you can do in your dorm & recipes to make in the microwave) and building free health & fitness communities on college campuses. In my spare time, I’m a Cycologist at Cyc Fitness and host fun fitness events around Boston!
What is your favorite motivational quote?
“Never be comfortable. “
Why did you choose the particular path you did?
I didn’t choose this path, it chose me! (Do I sound like The Wild Thornberry’s theme song or what?!). But seriously, if you would have asked me what I would do after college a few years ago, I would have told you that I would be doing social media or event marketing for some random company. Fit University organically took shape throughout college and by the time I was getting ready to graduate, I couldn’t even imagine working on another project besides my own.

Have you had any obstacles in following your dreams?
Not really. I am extremely lucky to be in a position where I am able to follow my dreams and not take a standard salaried job after graduation. But don’t get me wrong, not having a “real job” is definitely hard monetarily — I work a few different side jobs to support myself. I’d also say that not having any business background definitely makes things a bit more challenging but I’m learning and growing every step of the way!
What is your view on taking risks?
Do it. You never know what you can achieve until you try.
